Medical Physiology 301 - Physiology Lecture Notes

Medical Physiology 301 is a collection of online lecture notes from University of Vermont. The link will take you to the search page of Physiology department where you can look for topics of your choice.
These are the currently listed topics in the site

At present this page is a pretty messed up state. Its bad programming everywhere. You need to read through a lot of HTML that should actually be hidden from you to get to the required information. But the quality of that information is the reason I am putting The Medical Physiology 301 site to my collection.

Gynechologie -  Interactive book in Obstetrics and gynaecology

This is the personal website of Dr Ali Abbar, A French Gynecologist and Obstetrician. So naturally this website is in French. But thanks to google translate, you won't have any trouble accessing it in English.

The topics in this online obstetrics and gynecology book is arranged in and A-Z index form. Each topic is detailed with the help of images.

The Atlas of Ultrasound in Gynecology and Obstetrics

This is the largest ultrasound atlas I came across so far. Each Ultrasound Image is associated with a short description of the actual case.

The site has an inbuilt button for doing translation. There is a translate button on the right hand side of the website. As it is also labelled in french it is easy to miss this.

The button labelled 'Traduire ce site' is the translate button.

You can use this link to access the site directly in English( Also uses google translate).
You may also use Google chrome web browser for hassle free translation as it supports automatic translation of web pages.

How to access aiimsexams.org using firefox

Update:  AIIMS has updated their website to make it more compatible to modern day browsers like firefox and safari. So this post is obsolete now regarding access of that site. But you can use this method to access any site that allow only a specific set of browsers.
aiimsexams.org is the official exam portal of All India Institute of Medical Science, which also happens to be the nodal agency for conducting AIPGMEE ( All India Medical Post Graduate Entrance Examination). This site is used yearly by millions of students and doctors to apply for various exams including AIPGMEE, AIIMS (for MD/MS/Diploma), MDS, DM/MCh, Nursing courses etc.

Unfortunately this site is one of the rarest sites that differentiate users based on their browser. The site does not allow browsers other than Internet explorer to access its full contents. Even though you could apply for an examination in aiimsexams.org using firefox, you won't be allowed to download the admit card or check the percentage of marks once the results come.

If you try to access aiimsexams.org using a browser other than Internet Explorer, an error will be displayed stating that "Incompatible version of browser found. Its highly recommended to use only IE ( Microsoft Internet Explorer) version 6 or above". The boxes for entering the roll numbers will be grayed out( see the screenshots below). The graying will prevent you from punching the required numbers to the box.

This was a great inconvenience for me as I am a complete linux user. IE was not an option(wine could do it but it makes my system unstable). I had to go to Cafe or get a friend's laptop everytime I needed an access to the site, which, needless to say was frustrating. So I searched for a solution to access Internet explorer only site using firefox and found a good add on.

User Agent Switcher - Download

This is a free add on to firefox. Intall it and change the user agent to Internet Explorer.

Using the user agent switcher firefox will mimic itself as internet explorer and you can access aiimsexams.org without any graying out. Once you are done with aiimsexms.org be sure to reset the user agent to the default (just a precaution thats it).

Below are the screenshots of the same page using the same browser but with a different user agent setting.

These two screen shots are barely 20 seconds apart but you can clearly see the difference in the appearance. The user agent was set to Internet Explorer 8 ( 6 and 7 would also work fine).

With this user agent switcher you can download the admit card for AIPGMEE using Firefox itself.

If you want to see the complete installation guide to user agent switcher. Read How to access internet explorer only site using Firefox

The link will take you to the Image index of this atlas.  There is also a glossary of terms used in Opthalmology along with a short description on each.

There is also an Eye Disease Simulator, with which you can get an idea about how the patient see the world. This will enable you to ask precise questions while taking history. Descriptions are not provided with the atlas images but a short explanation is there with the Eye disease simulator.

Red Atlas

This website is a free, electronic atlas of ophthalmic diseases designed to help medical students in learning to identify the diseases through pattern recognition.

The site is divided into seven major heading under which different diseases are listed according to their name and their findings. Related diseases are further categorized into groups for better understanding. There is also a quiz section
which helps to measure the level of understanding by the identification of images.

Note: Red Atlas is currently not operational. The page shows 'loading' for long time and then fails. This was the best online atlas in ophthalmology. So I am just putting the URL in hope of its coming back.
